Land Patent

WILLIAM PENN TO MATTHIAS VAN BEBBER

The following excerpts are taken from the Patent recorded on December 23, 1702 in Patent Book A, Volume 2, on page 463, for the lands of what is now Skippack Township and Perkiomen Township:

William Penn true and absolute proprietary and governor in chief of the Province of Pensilvania and Territories there unto belonging. To all whom these presents shall come, sendeth greetings.

Whereas by my indentures of lease and release bearing date the ninth and tenth days of March in the year one thousand six hundred and eighty two in consideration of 100 pounds I granted five thousand acres of land to be laid out in this province to Dirk Sipman of Crefeld in the county of Meurs on the borders of Germany, to hold to him, his heirs and assigns forever ...

And whereas ...

And whereas by my life indentures of lease and release bearing date the tenth and eleventh days of June in the year one thousand six and eighty three in consideration of twenty pounds I granted one thousand acres of land to be laid out in the said Province to Govert Remke of Crefeld ...

And whereas ...

And whereas the said Govert Remke by a witness under his hand in the Dutch language, dated the fourteenth day of January in the year one thousand six hundred and eighty six, granted to the said Dirck the said one thousand acres of land ...

And whereas ... Matthias Van Bebber now of Philadelphia, Merchant, ...Jacob Isaac Van Bebber, father of the said Matthias, and Henry Sullen by force and virture of a certian letter of attorney from said Dirck dated the thirteenth day of May in the year one thousand six hundred and ninety eight granted the six thousand acres afore [mentioned] to the said Matthias his heirs and assigns for ever as by a deed dated the first day of September last past appears in light of which said purchases of five thousand acres and of one thousand acres there was surveyed by virture of a warrant from my now late commissioners to the said Dirck a certian tract of land now called Bebber Township situate in the county of Philadelphia ...

Know ye ... I have given, granted, released and confirmed and by these presents do give, grant, release and confirm unto the said Matthias Van Bebber his heirs and assigns for ever all that the said six thousand and one hundred and sixty six acres ... with all mines, minerals, quarries, meadows, marshes, swamps, cripples, savannas, woods, underwoods, timber and trees, ways, pastures, waters, liberties, profits, commodities, appurtenances whatsoever to the said six thousand one hundred and sixty six acres of land or to any part or parcel thereof belonging or in any wise appertaining and lying within the bounds afore said ... And also free leave right and liberty to and for the said Matthias Van Bebber his heirs and assigns to hawk, hunt fish and fowl in and upon the hereby granted land and premises or upon any part thereof.
